Research 5 : P!nk - "So What"

The video opens with a close up shot of the artists forearm, showing a new tattoo she has just got covering up a previous tattoo of her husband in real life. The most recent tattoo is the colour red. Red symbolizes anger and hatred, supporting the narrative and genre of this music video. This shot is concept based and well portrays how P!nk behaves.

A long shot shows P!nk center frame riding a lawnmower on a motorway. As this is something she wouldn't do in the real world, this shot links to Dyer's theory of "a stars an image".

A medium close up shot shows P!nk's huband with his hands over her eyes as she sings the lyrics "Guess I just lost my husband". Linking to Goodwin theory.

Goodwins conventions are used again, linking the lyrics to visuals, as the lyrics say "I WANNA START A FIGHT", the shot shows her fighting someone.

A close up shot of a tree is focused on as the tree has the names 'Alecia and Carey' engraved into it. This shot was made to focus the audiences attention on the names. This shot links to real life as Alecia is her actual name and Carey is her husbands real name.

A low angle shot is used, showing P!nk's superiority after breaking up with her husband. Goodwins theory is used here as throughout the video close ups of P!nk are used a lot. Pink sings into camera as well, linking with direct address as she is engaging with the audience. Many fans of pink like the close up shots of her singing into the camera as it appear like she is being more personal with the viewer.

Strauss's binary opposition is challenged as P!nk wears black which connotes to evil. A long shot is used here to show both the artist and the car next to her.  The shot shows pink on a Motorbike stopped at traffic lights as a just married couple pull up next to her. This is a very ironic shot as pink is singing about going through a breakup.

Pink gets angry with the newly married couple and throws things into the car, forcing the couple to roll up the window. The shot perfectly captures the couple inside the markings on the window. This is a very well placed shot. Using the colour pink for the markings on the window links with the thought of love.

A long shot is used here to show P!nk's whole body and to show the amount of paparazzi taking photos. This shot gains the attention from a male audience. Mulvey's 'male gaze' theory is applied here as Pink is naked. In this shot pink begins to dance, copying the dance from thriller. This represents intertextuality as it is linking the music video dance from "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.

Verisimilitude and mise-en-scene are created through the use of props and the setting in this shot. This shot appears real due to the jewelry box and the clothes rail . without this the shot would look fake.

The headline 'P!nk's Wild Party Causes "Hart" Break' is linked with the pun of 'hart' as she has caused her partner Carey Hart a heart break. Intertextuality is a key aspect of this shot as these were real headlines created by the media.

A few performance shots are used in this video, showing the Pink as an artist. The use of colours like pink, relate to her stage name.

Mulvey's theory of male gaze is very prominent here as pink is in a very revealing costume, attracting the attention of men.

CGI (A green screen) is used here to create the well designed background.

Throughout the video there are 14 different location shots and a total of 13 different outfits.

How This Research has Influenced my Planning and Creativity

1] I really like how here are quotes from the media in the background of some shots.
2] The framing of some of the shots are perfect! They really represent the emotions she is expresing throughout the song.

3] The close up shots work really well when showing the viewer the narrative of the song
